Flat Roofing

Win a trip to A&E this Christmas by doing this wrong…

December 15, 2021

Most of us love the festive season and nothing quite brings joy to children and adults faces than twinkling Christmas lights! Your roof provides you with the best way to make your outside decorations stand out and really be seen. Unfortunately, its not the most accessible so there are a few things you should keep in mind:

Prepare your supplies

You will be spending quite a lot of time in the air on a ladder so preparation is key! Make sure you have all your supplies lined up and ready to go. It will definitely, save you time in the long run! At this stage it is good to remember that placing clips too far apart will leave you with saggy light strings that look less attractive.

Test the lights before you start

Before you start hanging your lights it is a really good idea to check all bulbs are working beforehand. The last thing you want after spending ages putting the lights up are bulbs that are defective or burnt out. Inspect each light string for faulty wires and if wires are exposed, dispose of the entire string to avoid fire hazards.

Always use a steady ladder

Although this seems obvious it is surprising how many people can misjudge the height of their roof and the need for a ladder. It is advisable to make sure the ladder is on a flat surface and somebody is available to help hold the ladder and avoid any potential accidents.

Make sure lights are fastened correctly

This time of year can bring extreme weather so it is important to make sure the lights are fastened properly. Using light clips can make this part a bit easier. Ideally it is recommended that they are spaced 12 inches apart and all facing the same direction.

Pack away properly

Once Christmas is over and you welcome in the year 2022 then its time to take down your decorations! You may be tempted once you have removed them to throw the lights in a box but this could cause damage and make them unusable next year. Taking the time to wind the lights careful is worth it and will save you money next Christmas!

We hope you find these suggestions helpful and that your Christmas light decoration brings happiness and wonder to your community.
